Samantha Walker, Instructor; CFI, CFII, MEI
I knew I wanted to be a pilot as far back as I can remember as a young child. While growing up, my family traveled quite a bit. We even lived in Israel for two years when I was just 7 years of age. That experience not only instilled a passion for travel, but also for flying. I was in a small airplane at the controls, when I knew then for sure that was what I wanted to do. I continued that passion right after high school and enrolled at Florida Institute of Technology in their flight program while also working toward a degree. I graduated not only with a BS in airport management, but with my CFI and CFII.
I went on to flight instruct in New Bern NC, where I got my MEI and ATP. I knew I wanted an airline job. After many hours of flight instruction, I got out hired by PSA airlines (US Airways Express). I was a first officer in the Dornier 328. PSA phased out that aircraft for the Canadian Regional Jets. I later upgraded to captain on the CRJ200 and CRJ700. In 2008, I traded one career for another. That new career was raising a family. I have 3 little girls and have been a stay at home Mom for 9 years.
This past year, my youngest daughter started kindergarten, which gave me free time during the day. So, after many years away from aviation, I decided to come back to my first love, FLYIG. I forgot how much I loved to fly. So while my girls are at school, I get to flight instruct. When I was teaching in my earlier career, it was a stepping stone to get to the airlines. Now, I just enjoy being in the air and hopefully passing on my knowledge and experience to other students.
